Coping with stress in the workplace. Finding peace-before the kids come home.
The unfair fact is that the current economy often requires at least two incomes to make ends meet. What is considered the poverty level is getting higher as it become increasingly difficult to find pay scales that meet the demand for cost of living, education, gas increases, and so on. Dealing with the stress of keeping food on the table can wear you down and create major family issues. Since the workplace isn’t going to change any time soon it is up to you as a parent to create a healthy environment at home.
Two types of stressful work environments
Stress can happen inside the home, and outside the home.
Just because you may work from a home office, are a student, or a homemaker does not mean you are immune to work stress. For those that call home, work, and vice versa you need to work extra hard to develop habits where work does not interfere with family. It is easy to let the lines blur when the computer or workload is right in front of you but that is not fair to you or your family. The most important job you have is a parent; don’t let technology rule your home.
“The mind can go either direction under stress—toward positive or toward negative: on or off. Think of it as a spectrum whose extremes are unconsciousness at the negative end and hyperconsciousness at the positive end. The way the mind will lean under stress is strongly influenced by training.”
- Frank Herbert
